Pursuant to the regulations of the Travel/Work Program you hold authorization to stay in the U.S. once the date of your program has ended, with the purpose of domestic travel. If you are looking to locate the ending date of your program it can be found in box 3 of your DS-2019 form or stamped on your I-94 card. This is the date, by which you must stop working within your U.S. employer, however, this is also the date which you may begin your 30-day optional travel period, if it is allowed according to the dates on your DS 2019 form and I-94 card.
Should you remain in the U.S. longer than your authorized 30-day travel period you will no longer be eligible for the ICEO Work & Travel Program, in addition, to being considered illegally in the U.S. Staying past your authorized dates may result in legal consequences.
Note:
Program participants who travel beyond the boundaries of the U.S. during the 30-day travel option may not be permitted by the INS to reenter, as you are no longer in valid J-1 status during this time. Participants who have an interest in visiting either Canada or Mexico at the end of their stay should be prepared to return directly home from either country.
