I have an emergency and need to travel back to my home country, but would like to shortly return to the US and continue my program, what do I need to do?

Where may I travel during my 30-day optional travel period?
Within the continental US, Alaska and Hawaii, but nowhere outside that region.

I've only been working for 2 months, however, I'd like to begin my optional travel period now, may I do so?
