I'm in legal trouble/have been arrested, what should I do?
When you are arrested in the US you have the same rights as a US citizen:

  • You have the right to know the crime you are being charged with.
  • You have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions.
  • You have the right to an attorney.
  • You have the right to have your rights read to you before being taken into custody.

In the US you are presumed innocent until proven guilty. You may be released from jail based on a bail bond (money paid to ensure that you will return for your trial). You are entitled to a fair and speedy trial conducted according to appropriate retrieval of evidence and court procedures.

While ICEO cannot provide to you a lawyer, nor financial assistance, under certain instances, we can advise you of your rights during the legal process.
